[Tori Shuri Dotonori Pouch]
We would like to introduce you to a pouch made using Shuri textiles, which are made using traditional hand-weaving techniques in Okinawa.
The woven fabric is made from natural cotton thread, which feels soft to the touch and is breathable, yet is tightly woven for everyday use such as coasters and placemats, making it comfortable to use. The unique texture and weave, which can only be achieved by artisanal handwork, give the pouch a warm feel.
The fabric is woven using the Doton weaving technique (also known as Lawton weaving), which was used by royalty and the samurai class during the Ryukyu Dynasty and was once used for men's official robes. Both the front and back are warp-floating weaves (where the warp threads are floating), making it a fabric that can be used on both sides.
Additionally, we have asked artisans in Kyoto to make the clasp and stitching of the purse, and the result is truly exceptional, with pattern matching, stitching, and clasp processing all being of the highest quality.
The pouch designs have a nostalgic feel to them, but many of them are timeless and easy to match with any occasion. They come in a wide variety of colors, from bright tones to muted tones.
The pouch measures 20.5cm wide x 12cm high x 9cm deep, making it relatively compact, yet still spacious enough to hold small items, cosmetics, a smartphone, a wallet, and more. It's perfect for a variety of uses when traveling or going out. The inside of the pouch is lined with a relatively stain-resistant polyester material, making it a sturdy piece.
Handwoven pouches are gaining attention as unique items that convey the handiwork and attention to detail that only handmade items can provide. They are sure to be a delightful gift, as well as a great way to keep them for yourself. Be sure to get your hands on a pouch filled with the warmth of handwoven items.
